Istituto Comprensivo Statale “Tommaso Del Bene” is a state school placed in two villages: Maruggio and Torricella that are situated on the east side of the province of Taranto, in Puglia region, in the south-east of Italy. They are about 8 kilometers from each other.

 

Our school consists of three levels of education: Infant School, Primary School and Secondary School. In the school year 2012 – 2013 we have 852 pupils who are 3 – 14 years old: 195 children  at Infant School (3 – 5 years old), 392 pupils (from 6 to 11) at Primary School and 265 students (aged 12 – 14) at  Secondary School. We have a few students with special needs who are helped by specialized teachers.

 

A headmistress, 93 teachers, 21 school assistants and secretary staff work at Istituto Comprensivo “Tommaso Del Bene” that is located in different school complexes where there are classrooms equipped with digital whiteboards, computer laboratories, Internet connection, language labs, gyms and open air spaces.

OUR MISSION

 

Our teaching planning is different according to the different levels and our mission is to give our pupils a good education and prepare them to afford Higher Secondary School in the best way. The school subjects contributing to our pupils’ education are: Italian, Maths, English, French, Science, Technology, History, Geography, Art, Music, Physical Education, and Religious Studies.

 

The educational aims  of Istituto Comprensivo “Tommaso Del Bene” are:

 

·         developing skills and abilities of each pupil,

 

·         strengthening an effective use of Italian language, foreign languages, maths and scientific language,

 

·         helping pupils to be respectful to people considered “different”,

 

·         teaching students to be aware of the world and of the need of cooperation,

 

·         preparing them to the adult life and to the world of jobs and professions,

 

·         developing their sense of responsibility towards themselves and other people.

 

The educational action of our school is constantly oriented to the learning, the doing, the being and the cooperating.
